Intensive In-home Services
Presbyterian Homes & Family Services established Intensive In-Home Services for children and families in April, 2009. The purpose of the service is to address the needs of individuals and families experiencing emotional difficulties. The need to provide quality mental health services to children and youth in the Central Virginia area, where the economic situation often does not support private pay insurance, was a primary factor in developing the program. Human Services in the Commonwealth of Virginia is focused on providing services to youth in their home communities, preventing out-of-home placements and assisting youth transition home after residential placements. The Intensive-In Home Services provided by PHFS meets this priority.
Diagnostic Services
Diagnostic Services include a psychological evaluation conducted by a licensed clinical psychologist within a twenty eight day period. This service can be provided on an outpatient basis or while the youth is residing in the Genesis House Emergency Shelter. A formal evaluation is conducted along with the utilization of the following to determine the needs of the youth and family: Daily Living Assessment, Psycho Social History, Psychiatric Assessment, Medical Assessment by the Campus Nurse and Physical Examination by a licensed physician or designee, off site educational assessment to include observation in the classroom and an in-home assessment. At the conclusion of the evaluation, a conference is held with the referring source, family and child to discuss the outcome.
Mental Health Support
Presbyterian Homes & Family Services established the Mental Health Support Service for individuals in July, 2009. The purpose of the service is to address the needs of individuals experiencing significant functioning difficulties in their home community. The goal is to ensure community stability and independence for individuals in the most appropriate and least restrictive environment. The focus is to assist clients in developing independent living skills.
Intensive In-Home, Diagnostic Services and Mental Health Supports were established with the guiding principle that individuals and situations can change with support and education.
