WELCOME to Little Wings Preschool, a place where children are free to explore their world by wondering, touching, playing, doing and discussing the things that interest them. Nurturing, supportive teachers share their amazement, their joy and their sense of accomplishment as the children discover the world around them. Children develop courage, strength and resilience as they overcome challenges and frustrations. We encourage parents and caregivers to participate in the thrill of childhood by being a part of our classrooms and our campus.
ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS The Little Wings program creates an excellent early childhood experience for children of all backgrounds and needs through the High/Scope Curriculum. As a collaboration between Presbyterian Homes, Randolph College Education Department and Lynchburg City Schools, Little Wings strives to be an excellent preschool model, developing children’s active learning. Their interests and choices are the heart of the program.
We encourage learning through active involvement with people, materials, events and ideas so that children can gain knowledge and skills in important social, physical and academic areas.
Our curriculum encourages children to plan activities, carry them out and talk with others about what they have done and what they have learned.
We honor diversity in our community and value all cultures, religions, ethnic origins, and economic backgrounds and support the active sharing of customs, perspectives and heritages.
We recognize the child’s need to become independent, responsible and confident – to insure success in school and life.
RESEARCH BASEDResearch demonstrates that high-quality preschool programs better prepare children for school success and enable them to acquire the skills necessary for success in life. Small classrooms are open for children ages 3-5. Each classroom will have 12 children with trained adult teachers and aides. The low classroom ratio during preschool activities is extraordinary and enables us to provide exceptional opportunities for children to learn and grow. Open from 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., with flexibility for drop off and pick up as meets parent’s schedules. Two programs are available: • 7:30–5:30 p.m.• 7:30–1:00 p.m. Monthly fees: $100 a week for full day $77 a week for half day Breakfast and snacks are provided for students at no additional cost. As a diverse and inclusive program, a sliding fee scale is available. The program is licensed and will be seeking High Scope Certification (www.highscope.org).
