ADMINISTRATION – LYNCHBURG, VA
VP OF DEVELOPMENT: The Vice President of Development is responsible for the overall strategic direction and management of all Development department activities to sustain Presbyterian Homes and Family Services’ mission and vision. The position works closely with the President and board members to sustain a year-round and comprehensive program of charitable support from individuals, corporations, foundations, churches, and philanthropic organizations. The VP of Development will work closely with other departments within PHFS to align fund raising initiatives with programmatic needs. This position reports directly to the President. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Proven experience as a senior development professional. Proven track record for success in developing, planning and executing resource development programs. Proven leadership, team building, and communication skills are crucial to success. HUMAN RESOURCES TRAINING COORDINATOR: is responsible for coordinating, overseeing, and implementing employee orientation and training as well as posting vacant positions on the Ministry website, HRIS training database maintenance, creating queries and reports from HRIS, maintaining training files for all employees, coordinating with internal and external trainers to ensure adequate resources and producing and maintaining an annual training calendar with monthly distributions. Exceptional verbal and written communication and relationship skills are required as well as the demonstrated ability to work efficiently with Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Human Resources law and regulations as well as the ability to apply modern adult learning methods is preferred. A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a business or education field with a minimum of two years experience in an education or business setting with the ability to apply knowledge to practice is required. This is a FT position with an excellent benefit package that requires occasional day and overnight travel.
COMMUNICATIONS & MEDIA SPECIALIST: enhances the ministry’s outreach by developing written communications, including print, electronic, and web-based venues. The position reports to the Director of Development. This position is responsible for creating and sustaining communications with Board members, volunteers, donors, prospects, alumni, and other stakeholders and constituents. Other responsibilities include participation in strategic planning, writing copy to communicate mission, oversight of production schedules, and participation in planning and creation of media. Candidate must demonstrate skills and experience in writing and editing, layout and design, writing for human interest stories, video creation, and/or editing web and internal communications. Thorough knowledge of the development, design, and delivery of effective communications through print and media. Ability to develop and implement approach, deployment, analysis, integration, and continuous improvement for print and media communications. Proficient computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office Suite, and database management. Competency in verbal and written communication. Must demonstrate an understanding of and appreciation for cultural diversity. Full-time with excellent benefit package, competitive salary, and a great working environment. CHILDREN’S HOME –
YOUTH COUNSELOR POSITIONS: Residential setting for youth with emotional, behavioral and/or family related needs. Provide care, supervision, guidance and instruction to residents. Duties include behavior management, role modeling, and thorough documentation, as well as planning activities, transportation, food preparation and light housekeeping. Knowledge of child/human development, intervention skills, and residential care. Evenings, nights and weekends. A Bachelor’s Degree or an Associates degree with 1year of related experience is required. Full-time with excellent benefits package; 2nd and 3rd shift work available. PT hours also available on weekends with hours available on 1st or 2nd shift.
AWAKE NIGHT RELIEF YOUTH COUNSELOR POSITIONS: CURRENT IMMEDIATE NEED - Residential setting for youth with emotional, behavioral and/or family related needs. Provide care, supervision, guidance and instruction to residents. Duties include behavior management, role modeling, and thorough documentation, transportation, food preparation and light housekeeping. Knowledge of child/human development, intervention skills, and residential care desired. A Bachelor’s Degree or an Associates degree with 1 year of related experience is required. Awake Night Relief Positions available for evenings, nights and weekends, 3rd shift availability highly preferred -on call as needed.
SEASONAL RECREATION ASSISTANT: May 21 through September 5, 2008 needed. This position will be responsible for assisting in planning and implementing a recreation program including athletics, games, trips, projects, etc. Knowledge of basic games and activities such as basketball, volleyball, flag football, softball, etc and community recreation resources. Minimum qualifications: experience serving youth in an activity oriented capacity for one year; high school graduate or equivalent; valid VA driver’s license and acceptable driving record; CPR/First Aid certification; Lifeguard certification preferable. Must be at least 21 years old.
LIFEGUARD: Seasonal May through September needed. This position is responsible for the daily operation of the pool, teaching youth to swim, informing swimmers of pool rules, greeting guests at the pool and for adhering to safety procedures. Most tasks consist of routine pre-established procedures but this is also a highly skilled position in the field of water safety and the employee must be able to respond to emergency situations. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent; Current Lifeguard Certification; VA Driver’s License and acceptable driving record; CPR certification. Must be at least 21 years old. LITTLE WINGS PRESCHOOL – PRESCHOOL
DIRECTOR: experienced professional for the new
preschool to provide leadership, vision, and oversight of the Little Wings
Preschool program in Lynchburg, VA. Responsibilities include:
leads program, monitors and updates employees, and maintains applicable
licensing and accreditation regulations/guidelines. Other responsibilities:
financial management, supervision of staff, oversight of classroom management
and parental involvement, maintains required records, and provides
statistical data in support of grant development and fundraising activities.
Position requires knowledge of educational techniques and methods, evaluation
of High/Scope Curriculum, and Start Strong program. This position is the key
liaison between families, community groups, and professional organizations.
The Preschool Director is supervised by the Vice President of Program. Applicants should have excellent oral and written communication skills as well as experience with Microsoft Office. A Bachelor’s degree in an educational field, master’s degree preferred. Experience in supervision and management of a licensed preschool or child care program required. Must provide “TB free” documentation. This is a 12 month position with occasional travel (day and overnight), with an excellent benefits package.
LEAD TEACHER: responsible for planning and leading daily operations of new Little Wings Preschool. Plans and implements activities in alignment with High/Scope, knowledge of Start Strong Program, supervise children and Aide. Ability to produce educational programs, relate with children and parents, recognize special needs children, and be a team-player. Requires a B.A. degree in an educational field and experience in licensed preschool or child care program. Experience with High Scope curriculum is preferred. This is a full-time 10 month position with excellent benefits.
TEACHER AIDE: assists Lead Teacher in daily operations. Implements activities in alignment with High/Scope, knowledge of Start Strong Program, aide children in developing self-help skills, maintain records, and perform daily housekeeping activities. Position requires ability relate well with children and parents, recognize special needs children, and be a team-player. The Aide is supervised by the Preschool Director. Required Associates Degree or a CDA in an educational field and in High Scope curriculum, B.A. degree is preferred, experience in teaching and caring for children in a licensed preschool or child care program, and High Scope curriculum. This is a part-time 10 month position with occasional evening or weekend hours.
ADULT GROUP HOME –
PROGRAM/CASE MANAGER: for a five-bed group
home and one-bed supervised living apartment for intellectually disabled
adults in Applicants should have excellent
oral and written communication skills as well as experience with Microsoft
Office and supervision of staff. A Bachelor’s degree in Social
Work, Psychology or a related field with two years experience working in the field
of intellectual disabilities is needed. This is a FT position with occasional
travel and on call responsibilities, with an excellent benefits package. |

Adult Group Home - FREDERICKSBURG, VA
RESIDENTIAL POSITIONS: These positions provide direct care and supervision of adult residents with mental retardation and include food preparation, housekeeping, and transportation of residents in care. Positions require an understanding of the dynamics and demands of residential care, including daily living skills, behavior management, role modeling, working within a team model and documentation. Graduation from high school and one year experience in working with persons who have mental retardation or any combination of experience and training is required. A 24hr PT position as well as Relief Positions- with hours on call as needed; are currently available. CNA preferred.

SEASONAL PRODUCTION ASSISTANT: is responsible for performing any and all assigned tasks in the area of peanut production. Primary duties will include cooking peanuts for production, as well as working with mentally challenged adults. Applicants should be able to lift up to 50 pounds; relate to the mentally challenged; instruct employees in various manual tasks in a production setting and have experience in regards to cooking peanuts. Position requirements include a High school diploma or GED equivalent and at least two years of experience working with peanut distribution, with a preference on cooking peanuts.
RESIDENTIAL POSITIONS: These positions provide direct care and supervision of mentally challenged adults with duties including food preparation, housekeeping, and transportation of residents in care. Applicants should have an understanding of the dynamics and demands of residential care, including daily living skills, behavior management, role modeling, working within a team model and documentation. Graduation from High school with one year of related experience is required. FT and PT positions with multiple shifts/hours currently available. CNA preferred.
